New Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 Antimalware Engine released to customers on 18 May 2011. I was bit late to report to readers due to some computer related problems. During this time the SMPS of my desktop fused and I have to replace this. Due to job preoccupation it was delayed to two to three days and am back to online again. Antimalware Engine 1.1.6903.0 is released to all MSE, FCS, FEP customers on 18 May 2011. Signature package 1.105.32.0 is the first that contains this engine. A new Microsoft Security Essentials Antimalware Engine release is now available to customers leveraging version 2.0 of the free security solution. According to Microsoft, in addition to Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0, Forefront Client Security (FCS) and Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) will also receive the new version of the antimalware engine.
In this update no add ons in terms of GUI and functionality is added but the basic configuration and security clients augmented with this new antimalware engine. This is the antimalware from Microsoft and last year it was reported that 30 million times. The version 2 of this anti malware was launched December 2010.
According to new user rules of this antimalware in its second version small business users were also granted the right to leverage the security solution free of charge on as many as 10 PCs. According to Microsoft, in addition to Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0, Forefront Client Security (FCS) and Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) will also receive the new version of the antimalware engine.
According to Gizmo:
Microsoft Security Essentials is a great choice for average users because of the minimal user interaction required. It automatically updates and removes threats. No registration is needed, apart from a quick validating of Windows, and there are no nag screens or advertisements.
The main downsides are the slow scan speeds and the lengthy amount of time it takes to quarantine malware. MSE also is not available in certain countries so users there will have to look elsewhere. Note that Microsoft Security Essentials requires a genuine copy of Windows to install.
